CONFIDENTIALITY
Clients who see me
for therapy are assured that the information shared with me remains strictly
confidential. I do not discuss what you have shared with me with
anyone else.
There are exceptions to this,
usually involving situations where a client requests it. The exceptions
are:
-
If you ask me to send information
to anyone else, such as your physician, I will ask for your signed release
to do so. If you were referred to me by your physician I will ask
to be able to send a note indicating that you are working with me.
Any information I send will be available for you to see.
-
I am legally required to tell the
Ministry of Children and Families if I learn of a child being abused.
-
I am legally required to warn anyone
whose life is in danger.
-
I am legally required to comply
with a subpoena to appear in court or to provide my notes to the court.
-
If I am working with a child, most
of what a child tells me remains confidential, but some information is
provided to parents. Further explanation of this is provided to parents
and children when I meet with them.
-
If I am working with members of
a couple or working with family members together, issues of confidentiality
can be complex and are discussed with everyone when we first meet.
-
I may consult with another professional
about our work together but I avoid identifying information when discussing your situation.
If you have any questions
about confidentiality, you may ask me about this at any time.
